Sixty years ago Monday [Há exatos 60 anos, contados a partir desta segunda-feira], a 25-year-old woman [uma mulher de 25 anos] visiting a remote part of Kenya [em visita a uma região afastada do Quênia] got a message that her father had died [recebeu a notícia do falecimento do pai].

She cut her trip short [Ela encurtou a viagem] and flew home to London. Prime Minister Winston Churchill met her at the airport [foi recebê-la no aeroporto] — because with her father dead [porque com a morte do pai], she had become Queen Elizabeth II.

On Monday, the queen thanked the public “for the wonderful support and encouragement [pelo apoio e incentivo maravilhosos] that you have given to me and (husband) Prince Philip [Príncipe Philip] over these years [ao longo desses anos].”

She said in the open letter [em carta aberta] that she planned to “dedicate myself anew to your service [renovar meus votos de dedicação para servi-los].”

Olá Ulisses
Fico muito interessada e gosto bastante de estudar os deus textos ! estou mais ou menos no Ingles básico ao intermediário e a minha grande dificuldade é o listening. Como poderia conciliar textos mastigados com listening? Vc não teria estes mesmos textos com o listening? Tenho 66 anos e talvez a dificuldade já está na audição então preciso estudar bastante para corrigir esta falha!!! se tiver algum projeto assim me comunique. Ficarei muito agradecida

Apenas uma pequena correção na CONJUGAÇÃO da tradução, sem qualquer problema para a compreensão, mas que para ALUNOS é importante:
” celebrations….begin Monday”(COMEÇAM). O texto deve ter sido redigido antes do início das festitividades. Ou “celebrations BEGAN Monday” (COMEÇARAM). Rgds.

I’m sorry. I checked out and Churchill did was Prime Minister for the Second Time 60 years ago. My mistake, forget that paragraph.

Now I’ll keep a respectful silence against mediocrity (mine)

Thank you for sharing this text. I think that, all of us, citizens of the world have some respect for the Queen of United Kingdom, whether because she’s approaching the historical 64 years of her grandmother’s rule, whether she’s been on throne in almost of the main events in last century.

Anyway,thanks for the text. And, by the way,not your fault but just to state: Sir Winston Churchill wasn’t Prime Minister when she arrived from Kenya. Richard Allen Greene (american?) didn’t check it out before publishing.
