Essa palavra, ofensiva, designa geralmente uma mulher vistosa e não muito inteligente que procura um homem rico apenas por dinheiro, e não por amor.

A popular attraction at the world’s exhibition was a sealed glass box containing 500,000 American one dollar bills. This was a fundraiser where for $10 a ticket a person could guess how many bills the box contained. At the end of the exhibition, when the seal was broken and the bills counted, there was only $470,000. Sid Shady was responsible for enclosing the money. When questioned by Shadow, Shady said that he personally counted each bill by hand. “To be sure,” he added, “I counted them twice by hand during the two days before the box was sealed. I could have been out by 80 or 90 dollars, but not 30,000!” he protested. Shadow insists Shady is lying. How can he be so sure?

Há tradução para “farofa”?

Eu traduzo “farofa” por… manioc flour toasted in butter or olive oil/cooking oil, sometimes mixed with meat or eggs. Mas você pode simplesmente dizer manioc flour, que nem é exatamente “farofa”, mas apenas “farinha de mandioca”. Para falar a verdade, nem traduzo “farofa”. Nunca foi necessário. A maioria dos gringos nem entenderia a que está se referindo, pois não saberiam o que é manioc root. Diriam /fárr-ó-fa/, mesmo.
