Falsas Gêmeas: LAST x LATEST
É notória a dificuldade enfrentada pelo aluno brasileiro quando precisa dizer “último” em inglês. Em nosso idioma, esse adjetivo pode tanto querer dizer “derradeiro, final” quanto “o mais recente”. Na língua inglesa, entretanto, geralmente usam-se duas palavras: “LAST” e “LATEST”. Portanto, para dizer “derradeiro”, prefira o adjetivo “LAST”, ao passo que, para se referir àquilo que é “mais recente”, diga “LATEST”. Em inglês, “ULTIMATE” nem sempre significa “último”. Seus significados mais comuns são “definitivo”, “final”, “a última palavra”, “máximo” etc. Os exemplos a seguir deixam bem claro essas diferenças.
